Nucleoplasty - Percutaneous Disc Decompression: L5/S1
A 21 year old man with a 5 year history of low back pain without any obvious precipitating event is presented. He has a small central, contained disc bulge at L5/S1 and a positive discogram at that level. The two levels above were normal and pain free. When the fissure (tear) filled with dye during the discogram there was immediate severe 10/10 concordant pain.
A DISC Nucleoplasty procedure in this young man is presented along with detailed commentary on its mechanism of action, safety profile and outcome data.
Three weeks post-procedure, his pain goes from a pain score of 7/10 down to 0/10 and he has no leg pain.
