Tai Chi for Low Back Pain

Kate Cowlishaw is a physical therapist who for the past four years has focused her time and energy on her clinical pilates practice at a Melbourne based sports medicine clinic.

In November last year, she attended the 5th Interdisciplinary World Congress on Low Back and Pelvic Pain.  As part of this, she attended a 'Tai Chi for Low Back Pain' workshop run by Dr Paul Lam.  Dr Lam is a western trained GP who practices in Sydney, and is a respected Tai Chi teacher.

In consultation with other general practitioners and rheumatologists as well as physical therapists, Dr Lam has developed 'Tai Chi for Low Back Pain', which is a Tai Chi repertoire designed specifically for people with low back pain.

Kate then undertook some training to become a Tai Chi for Low Back Pain 'leader', and is about to run her first 8 week program at Richmond Recreation Centre.

The course begins on Wed Oct 19th 2005, and will run for 8 consecutive Wednesdays from 1.30 - 2.30pm.

Cost is $20 per class, some of which may be claimable through private health funds.

For more information contact Kate at Olympic Park
Sports Medicine Centre on (03) 9427 0366.
